The Green Trend Hits Rickshaws

When experts say that the auto trend these days is the production of environmentally friendly vehicles, the statement is encompassing. Yes, it includes the rickshaws.

While Honda Civic parts are enhanced to meet the requirements of a hybrid car and Chevrolet is absorbed in preparing Volt's, its plug-in hybrid, launch in the market, Pakistan is also zeroing in on helping the environment by regulating the production of green “rickshaws.”

To note, the green rickshaw scheme, has gained momentum in a number of Pakistan destinations such as the Sialkot, Daska and Pasrur. Under the said scheme, as many as 750 rickshaws will be given to the applicants on subsidized price in Sialkot district.

The launch of the scheme in the territory is aimed at slashing harmful emissions connected with global warming. Another notable purpose is to provide employment to jobless Pakistans.

On Monday, sources told Unique Pakistan that provincial government has already set up a "Green Fund" with an amount of Rs 1 billion for extending loan facilities to the interested persons for undertaking projects pertaining to environment, conversion of rickshaws into CNG and for the purchase of CNG buses in the Punjab.

Under the government program, Pakistan will encourage the projects pertaining to saving the environment. Interested persons could benefit the loan facility for initiating projects. Also, the scheme will be converting rickshaws into CNG and will be purchasing CNG buses in the Punjab. Sources added the 2-stroke rickshaws would be converted into CNG by the end of current year in Punjab.

With the alarming effects of global warming to both the environment and the people, every nation not just Pakistan and America, should take every effort to help circumvent its outcome. Before you know it, our environment is already far from revival. That would be too late.
